Thanks to author Sara Whitestone, creative writing faculty in the English Department at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, who addressed our class on April 17th. Professor Whitestone spoke about clinical research on trauma writing that intersects in interesting ways with the trauma theory we have been reading and incorporating into our own class writing. Whitestone also shared her own writing process, publication experiences, and a section of one of her current works in progress. The class enjoyed and were intellectually stimulated by the discussions on writerly decisions of audience, point of view, genre, voice, and subject matter.

  1. I really enjoyed speaking to such an engaged class. Remember that memories of difficult events can actually be changed to more positive recollections when we write about them!

    1. Sara, thanks for reminding us of yet another benefit of traumatic testimony!
