Author Alumna Heidi Sales

We all send a big thank you to Shenandoah University alumna and published novelist Heidi Sales who addressed our class on On Feb. 20, fielded student questions about writing and publishing, and then facilitated a working lunch writing workshop of students' current work during a second class period attended by most of the class.

Sales was excited to give back to her major and her alma mater. Thank you, Heidi, for sharing your expertise -- and for bringing each student a signed copy of your latest novel, Eramane, which the class has demanded we discuss later in the semester!

Thanks, also, to the English Department for sponsoring our working lunch!

Snow Day Assignment: 3/414

Photo: MLB
Freewrite for 15 minutes on one of the following:

1. How to show, not tell, a segment of your current work.

2. What would your piece be like if told from a different point of view?

3. What would happen if you started your piece in medias res?

4. What is the central theme of your piece and how can you make it stronger?

Now: did you have any epiphanies? What were they?

Stay safe out there! Workshop on Thursday, weather permitting.
